Plaxo acquired by Comcast?

There’s been much talk of Plaxo lately, in regards to its wanting to sell. Comcast has reportedly paid $175 million in cash for the contact aggregation tool. Not Google, or anyone else. Unfortunately, much of the discussions surrounding Plaxo’s willingness to sell has been circling around the company’s ability to integrate with another company’s existing tools. What will happen with my plaxo account?

Mobile Social Networking

I am getting a little but frustrated with all those social networks. Only facebook is mobile in Europe. I use Facebook on my blackberry everyday. But my Facebook account is only for real life / non virtual / non business friends. The combination plaxo / linkedin is a business killer for me but plaxo the mobile version is not available in Europe. I can access linkedin with my blackberry browser or Opera for the Blackberry but linkedin is not optimized for mobile use. I am in search for a mobile social network killer concept!

BBC and Social Networking

The German poet Heinrich Heine stated once that everything in The Netherlands happened 50 years afterwards. I think I need to wait for 50 years if I want to hear a radio programme about social networking like http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/news/inbusiness/inbusiness.shtml

Open social

Plaxo is offering under the application link, open social functionality. But according to Plaxo is this only early beta code that may break. Open-Social is currently at version 0.5 and will be changing a lot in the coming weeks. Use only if you want to experiment with the bleeding egde of the Open Social Web. :)

I am not a coder and will not compile my own open social applications. According to http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/ there are many websites implementing OpenSocial, including Engage.com, Friendster, hi5, Hyves, imeem, LinkedIn, MySpace, Ning, Oracle, orkut, Plaxo, Salesforce.com, Six Apart, Tianji, Viadeo, and XING.

I am waiting. Will open social be vaporware or are there already solutions available?
