Figures from IBM’s Institute for Business Value

Internet News provides figures from a study published by IBM’s Institute for Business Value which found that 80% of mobile phone users want their service provider to offer more choice in internet applications and services available on their mobile. According to the study 60% of those polled want access to banking services whilst other utility functions such as stock trading, news, general browsing and instant messaging are also of interest. 53% surveyed want access to mobile TV services and 45% want to purchase music online. The study estimates that the market for mobile internet services will reach $80bn by 2011 with the number of internet users worldwide increasing by 191% between 2006 and 2011 to reach 1bn, representing an annual growth rate of 24%.

Social Networking and dating

Cupid has part-exchanged his bow and arrow for a mobile phone as over half of today’s singles (54%) are finding love through social networking, according to a poll by Wadja, the mobile web, media and messaging service. 

The research of 500 social networkers across Europe into mobile living and mobile social networking, indicates that 37% of users flirt, organise their love life and meet new people through social networking. 

58% of those interviewed use social networking to keep in touch with friends and 87% say their social lives would suffer without it. Only 5% believe their social life would not be affected without access to social networking sites.

Dodgeball

Can somebody explain me when you want to use certain web applications you always need to be based in the US? Dodgeball is one of those services. I can sign in with my Gmail username but if I wan to use it I need to be in the US. Useless!
